The last two comments on a warning from start of this road made us to do this road as they mentioned the road is not that bad and fixed also a cyclist comment not worthy at all as the road is possible to be done by even 1WD bicycle, and 0WD trekking yes it's not a 4WD challenging road at all but this road is not fixed at all and pooly made, early section is asphalt then trouble will start on its dirt section all the way down and is terrible with lots of deep potholes holes side to side and crazy damaged shoulders all the way down the road and is a VERY VERY VERY bad condition 2WD road which all the sudden could break suspension or axles of your rig for just 30 to 40 km/hr, full of fine dust all the way and terrible condition, even locals tried to make some offroad lines out of the main road section to pass it little hassle free, DO NOT DRIVE THIS ROAD IS A TERRIBLE ROAD NOT FIXED YET AND YES IS POSSIBLE TO PASS IT BY EVEN WALLKING ON IT SO YOU WILL PASS IT BUT YOU MIGHT DAMAGE YOUR CAR ON THIS TERRIBLE SILLY ROAD !!!!

The road is not that bad anymore. Even with bicycles it was not an issue. Regular ripio.

total garbage road through the middle of nowhere barren puna. really rough on your gear for no reason other than to see a mining operation and a large dam.

Agreed, even on bikes this road is a challenge for anything that may be loose...if it wasn't before it will be when you finish. It's very difficult to avoid all the holes and you can't hug the edge easily as the lorries drive right over on the edge and it's sloped, plus they create a line of heaped dust between the slope an the pot-holed road. Up side was some amazing views and the 'window to Colca' plus a lake near the end (heading South) with lots of flamingos. It was good to see the views but we won't be returning to this road.

The road is really bad ripio with hugh holes. One of the worst i have seen in 6 month SA. Even with our high clearance we drove mostly around 20km/h, no way that more than 30km/h is possible (on normal ripio we are one of the fastest and don't have problems). Further south its get a lil bit more relaxed for some Kilometers, because you can take sideroads with better condition. Otherwise the whole street is in bad condition.
