There is a small obstacle at the exit of the R40 for side access, due to maintenance work on the R40. 4x4 is not required but high clearance.There was a lot of sand before reaching the river. Even though we had a 4x4, we didn't risk going any further. There was a small entrance just before the sand started, so we stayed there.

Easily accessible by mid sized rigs. A bit sandy at the river, but should also be ok for 2WD. Quiet. Lots of horseflies (in February).

I camped here on my solo bike tour thru SAm. This is a good wild camp. Pros: secluded from RN40. 20 m from Río Grande, where it was easy to fill bottles. The Río looked muddy but water in a bottle was only slightly so; after several hours for the particles to settle, the water was almost clear. Peaceful site, with some worthwhile mountain scenery. Easy access: turnoff west from RN40 is at S36.51025 W69.66532. Go 200 m down a side road and then 50 m N along the river bank. Cons: Along river bank, there was little protection against the wind, except that from the east. There was better protection if one moved back east 30 m among the bushy sand dunes. Area along river was sandy and pegs did not hold. I piled rocks onto them which worked OK. Thorn trees were common and one had to pay attention. I therefore walked my bike both ways along the 250 m access tour to the RN40. The next morning, upon arriving at the RN40, I carefully checked my tires for thorns. (There were none).
